Coming out from the authocratic regime from behind the Iron Curtain, in 1989, in Eastern Europe, I used to believe, back at that time, that the democracy, alongside the free election systems, is a silver bullet that will secure the liberty and freedom forever.
I was obviously wrong. The democracy is no silver bullet in this respect. Everyone can see the proof everywhere around the globe.
But I still consider that voting is essential. Ok then, so what do I see Democracy to be like?
Well, I think is sort of a watchdog.
But this fellow is sometimes taking a nap. Scratching, maybe. Going out for a leak. Or just not being impressed.
Still, when things get serious and damage is on its way, the democracy becomes a true watchdog, that barks and bites. And sometimes fights like hell.
And when that happens, whoever is in charge, with all the insolence that might be seen due to his high rank, will come down to the “victim“ status. A victim that nobody cares about any more.
